(Jelly) Paul Joins Us

On Wednesday, it was another good night for the Crew.

We gathered at still another new location, as this week Tithi hosted the gathering. So add Woodbury to the list of our meeting grounds. It really adds to the fun having different places to meet.

Thank you, Tithi, for supplying us with a comfortable couch, tasty pizza, and some truly excellent salsa that I practically drank while waiting for the pizza to arrive.

The folks who made it this time around were Sue, Tithi, Joe, me, and--for the first time at a Crew meeting—Paul. While it's true that everyone's contributions were really cool, the most talked about piece after the fact has got to be Paul's "The Boy I Once Was" essay. It started out very solemnly, then started to get a little odd, and then a little crazy—and each step of the way, it seemed just a little bit more familiar. It turns out that the piece was a send up of a memoir that I had read the previous week. Apparantely, Rich—who had been unable to attend this Crew meeting—had filled Paul in on my story from the previous week, and Paul wrote a tongue-in-cheek-disguise-by-an-ultra-serious-tone piece from an imagined perspective of one of the characters that had been described in my memoir, a guy that will seemingly live in infamy as "Jelly Dick."

I guess it's kind of like the Fan-Fic among the Space Nerd community—taking a character from one piece and giving him his own story.

Anyway, I'll post more about the whole "J.D." thing in the form of comments to the blog entries below. But for now, I just want to say, thanks for another great night. I'm thrilled to have Paul aboard (and to see he made a post to the blog!), it was great to have had Tithi do the hosting thing, I was real glad Joe decided last minute to swing by and hang with us, and I always dig have Susanna around. For those who were unable to make it, it would have been great to have you there and I hope to see you at the next meeting.
